What is PRP?
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Blood is drawn from the patient’s body and is then placed into a machine that helps in segregating the blood cells, plasma and platelets. PRP is obtained by extracting the platelets and the plasma and removing other remaining blood cells- hence the name platelet-rich plasma. It is also known as the ‘Vampire’ therapy as well.
What is the function of PRP?
PRP helps in improving skin’s texture and provides radiance to the skin. PRP contains high level of platelets. These platelets release growth factors which help to improve overall skin. PRP also helps in minimizing enlarged pores and scars.
How many treatments needed?
Usually 3 to 4 sessions of treatment are recommended with the spacing of 2 weeks apart.
Are there any side effects?
Generally, there are no side effects for PRP. However, there might be risk of minimal bruising or swelling after the treatment. Your skin should be firmer and smoother within 3 weeks and results gradually improve in the following months.
Is it painful?
Numbing cream will be applied for about 30-45 minutes before the treatment. There will be minor discomfort felt during the procedure.
