What is Fractional CO2 Laser?
Fractional Laser Resurfacing is a new technology which promises to deliver results approaching that of deep chemical peels or ablative laser resurfacing, without the discomfort and inconvenience of a lengthy healing period.
How Does It Works?
Fractional Laser Resurfacing uses laser energy micro beams to break down skin tissue through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in lighter scar colour and a more even skin texture.
No visible wound is created and makeup can be applied immediately.
Additional treatments are usually spaced 1 to 4 weeks apart, for a total of 4-5 treatments. Further collagen remodelling and some skin tightening take place over the next 3-6 months.
Fractional Skin Resurfacing can improve the appearance of:
• Acne scars
• Surgical scars
• Enlarged pore size
• Skin tone and texture
• Age spots and Sun damage
• Stretch mark (this technology is the first to receive FDA-approval for treating Stretch mark)
When can I consider doing a fractional CO2 laser resurfacing?
For those looking to improve various aging signs such as fine lines and wrinkles, fractional CO2 laser can be considered. Fractional CO2 laser has been used for the treatment of open pores and deep acne scars for many years and till today has shown to be an effective modality. Usually around 3 to 4 treatments will be necessary to show noticable changes.
What should I expect during a fractional CO2 laser resurfacing procedure?
The entire procedure takes approximately an hour and a half. This includes an initial consultation with the doctor to determine whether this procedure is appropriate for you. If the treatment is appropriate, a 40-45 minute numb cream will be applied onto your face. After which, your face will be cleansed and the fractional CO2 laser treatment will start. A mask will be applied directly after the procedure.
What should I expect after completing my session of fractional CO2 laser resurfacing?
After the treatment, expect a day or 2 of facial redness. This will be followed up by a 5-7 day peeling downtime. During this period, excessive heat and sunlight must be avoided. Usage of moisturizers and cooling hydrating masks are recommended.
